Sometimes, the correction is a matter of life and death—literally. A woman was brought in with classic heart attack symptoms, but she refused to accept the diagnosis even as her heart was failing.
“I’m not having a heart attack,” she insisted, her breath coming in shallow gasps. “I know my body. It’s just a big lunch I had earlier. You’re just trying to bill my insurance.” Her own primary care doctor came into the ER and was so frustrated by her refusal to be treated that he fired her as a patient on the spot. She signed out against medical advice and walked toward the exit.
