A woman came in with a strange lump on the back of her neck. Her mother, standing by the bed, asked the nurse to “adjust her daughter’s scrotum” so she could be more comfortable.

The nurse froze, thinking she had misheard. “Her… what?” she asked. The mother sighed impatiently and pointed directly at the back of the girl’s neck. “Her scrotum! It’s right there!” No amount of explaining could convince the mother that a scrotum was a specific part of male anatomy located nowhere near the cervical spine. She left the clinic convinced the staff were the “uneducated” ones.
