Kate Winslet’s Hazardous ‘Titanic’ Shoot Kate Winslet achieved stardom with Titanic, a film celebrated for its romance but which presented life-threatening challenges for the actress. While filming a crucial flood sequence with Leonardo DiCaprio, her coat snagged underwater. Running out of air, she was forced to quickly free herself to avoid drowning. This was not the only difficulty she faced during production.

Winslet Persevered Through Difficult Filming Despite the danger and also contracting influenza during filming, Winslet carried on. She told the Los Angeles Times in 1999, “I had to sort of shimmy out of the coat to get free. I had no breath left. I thought I’d burst. And Jim just said, ‘OK, let’s go again’. That was his attitude. I didn’t want to be a wimp so I didn’t complain”.
